Darius-Link Version 2.0
Okie, Revisions!
After looking at some stuff online lastnight, Darius asked me how come those ppl had a better Link costume than his. *sigh* Alright alright, I said, I'll see if I can make some improvements on yours. So, I set out and made some extra little pieces to go along with...wow, I was up late again, no surprise.
Today I went over to the school and participated in their Halloween Party (thank you Ryan for watching Hunter while I was there, lifesaver!). I took a grand total of 275 pictures of everyone. I got an individual shot of all the kids in the class, plus a bunch of other children in his school that I'm going to need to foreward on to them.
Tonight's going to make for a long one. By the grace of god both boys are napping right now, as soon as they wake up, I'm shoving as much food as I can in them, then we're headed for the streets for some Great Trick or Trating fun! Afterwards, Chance and I are headed to the Mansfield Penitentiary for a wonderufl evening out the only Haunted House we're making it to this year. Loooooooong night. I'll letcha know if I can manage to get ANY sleep.

Friday Fill-Ins #96
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
And here we go!
1. My favorite food seasoning is salt. I admit it, I'm a salt addict.
2. Quiet is music to my ears.
3. Lucky is getting as much sleep as they recommend a night.
4. VOTING (revised from equality for humanity) is something I take very seriously.
5. Many people litter way too much, and could stand a lesson in reducing their Eco-Footprint!
6. Spray Paint, and shampoo were the last things I bought at the store.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to The Haunted House in Mansfield, tomorrow my plans include sleep would be wonderful, but I think I'm deluding myself here, and Sunday, I want to go to church to turn in our UNICEF boxes!

Cutest Ever
That's right. I've finally unveiled this years costumes for my boys. Darius is Link (From The Legend of Zelda), and Hunter is Bob The Builder (Duh)
I guess I did a not too bad job, but it definitely could be better, so I think I may work a bit more on it tonight to add some finishing touches that could help make it more identifiable. In any event, it looks alright for now, cause someone actually knew who he was while we were at the mall this evening. Hopefully tomorrow goes as smoothly.
Thursday Thunks - Michael Jackson, glue, popcorn, TP, and animals
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
- Would you let your children go Trick or Treating at Michael Jackson's house?
- No, that driveway would be too long to walk on a night where walking seems to take forever, I'm sure.
- Did you eat paste and/or glue as a child?
- I could have, maybe I licked it once or twice, I couldn't really tell you
- Look at the wall to your right, what is on it?
- A set of four black multi-picture frames, our Mantle, and our Cuckoo Clock that captivates Hunter so
- Do you put butter and/or salt on your popcorn?
- Lotsa Lotsa, I like to hear my arteries clog when I do
- What does your favorite coffee cup look like?
- It's a Scrabble mug that says "It's my word against yours" and it's dark blue, big, and round. Though, I use it for tea, not coffee.
- What was your favorite Halloween costume?
- Wow, it would have to be when my mom rented me that Big Bird costume that one year, I think I was, like 11? It was a faux fur body, regular suit, cool foot coverings that stuck out about 6 inches off my toes (imagine flippers), and a Paper Mache Mask/Head that was really tall and weighed about 5 pounds. I dunno, I remember going to the Rollerskating rink in it, but I don't recall if I went ToT-ing in it. It was cool, definitely a big memory. *Imagine, me, rollerskating in a Big Bird costume (BTW I like him because he's yellow) to the Chicken Dance song* now that you've had your giggle for the day...
- Toilet Paper - hard, soft, extra soft?
- Hard I guess, I need to know they're texture to make sure I've wiped properly, that soft stuff makes me feel like I'm smearing. Too much info?
- Have you ever rescued/taken in a stray animal?
- Probably...ask my mom, she'd know.
- Name 3 things you want your kids to learn before they grow up. (if you don't have kids, feel free to skip this one or add your own twist to the question)
- No matter what, if they don't help the rest of the human race be good people, than whatever they do, won't really change the world (and it only takes one person at a time, and one subject at a time to insinuate change).
- Even if some people don't deserve it, forgiveness helps the world move on because everyone makes mistakes.
- Everyone is created equal, and they ALL deserve the same rights.
- Pick one of the Thursday Thunk players and say something about them.
- Kimber - she always reads my Thursday Thunks, that makes her super nice, and I see her profile icon at a lot of the same places I visit (some even outside of TT), plus she's got something interesting to read almost every day!

Storytime & Immigration
"You're rushing through me,
like water from heaven
I feel you movin through me
Like sand in the the sea"
Backstreet Boys - Rush Over Me
Holy glory it took way too much energy to finish off that silly costume, and I'm finding I actually need to MAKE the darned hat to go with it. MIL was nice enough to go in search for me, and came up with a hard hat for an army guy, I just need to cover it with yellow fabric to turn it into a hard hat.
We wore it out in public this morning though, went to the first Library Storytime that is in this new session. It was fun, though I don't think he quite knew what was going on. He'll get used to it though, just like last time. He was shy when we got there this morning. Afterwards when we went out to go play with the train set, he certainly lost that shyness. I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of children there all at once. Two story-times got out at the same time, plus two more beginning right afterwards, and all the kids decended in their play area to wait. Wow, a dull roar of children chatter, parents talking amongst one another, and an occasional disagreement between children. I was amazed when about 6 different kids decided to have meltdowns all at the same time. It almost looked choreographed from where I sat. They all started screaming and each one seemed to rise in pitch seperately like an orchestra.
"There's a world outside every darkened door,
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar"
Tom Cochrane - Life Is A Highway
Our attourney called after we got home from the library to discuss our options (as I hadn't contacted her in a few weeks) regarding our move back to BC. What a mess it is. Oy yoi yoi. I keep putting off the formal discussion because I know it's going to end up a full out argument with some seriously hurt feelings because when we both decide something we have a very difficult time coming to any agreement, or ever discussing it without it getting heated. Judging from our recent actions it's just not been the right time to discuss it seriously as they're has been major difficulties having any serious discussion about anything without it errupting into a show fit for reality TV. Shameful, but true.
"To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is the whole you find"
WHAM! - Careless Whisper
I believe tonight is going to be one of those nights where I finally head to sleep early and take the tot with me. I'm tired, exhausted from pushing myself when I don't want to be. I still haven't taken pictures of either of the boys' costumes, hopefully I will before Friday. Friday I have a school party game to plan, but am unsure whether or not I'll even be able to attend due to the timing. Once again, I'm so aggrievated that I can't do ANYthing without a f***ing sitter cause my schedule just isn't a priority. Can you tell I'm beginning to feel trapped? Maybe I'm letting the cold weather get me down, but I'm fed up with having to find new ways to distract those trapped in the house with me. I just want out, and I want out now. I can only imagine how they feel.

Guess Who's Doing Research
That's right, your favorite blogger.
Dude...it's snowing out. It's October, and it's snowing. Not that they expect accumulation or anything, but if this is what it's like in October, how long, and how bad will winter be this year??
"I keep on looking for something I can't get,
Broken hearts lay all around me,
But I don't see an easy way to get out of this"
Foreigner - Died In Your Arms Tonight
Ack, I woke this morning realizing that I have a PRKVW Reads commitment today that I may not be able to make, which really upset me. Am thinking that it is definitely time to branch out and find my own sitter. I was considering my list of friends, but who knows, I'll come up with something yet, I'm sure I will.
"These things that are pleasin'you
Can hurt you somehow."
The Eagles - Desperado
Chance got a phone call yesterday asking him to come in and have his finger prints done for a job he'd applied for and gone through two interviews for. I believe he said by the end of the week they were going to formally offer him the job, so he'll be making a career change here very soon if all goes well. I'm so proud of him, he finally found a job in his field of expertise.
"If the illusion is real
Let them give you a ride
If they got thunder appeal
Let them be on your side"
The Cars - Let The Good Times Roll
Unfortunately for me, that means he will begin a regular 8-4 schedule and have weekends off. So that leaves me in a tough spot, I really need to find a babysitter so I can continue my commitments, cause I'm starting to feel really sad that everything I've signed up for can't be fit into anything. It's just time to bite the bullet, if Hunter can get used to church watch for the short time of the service, he can get used to someone watching for an hour at a time while I fulfill the commitments I signed up for. I have a list of parents on PTO and the like, I believe I'm going to ask them for recommendations of names & or places where I may be able to take him to.
"Where are you when I need you around
Your life is not your own "
The Smapshing Pumpkins - Crestfallen
Anyhow, today I begin my research into the Raffle prizes that I need to raise for the school. Even though my other things may fall through I know I can still do PTO & PAT, so I have some consolation in that. I'm going to begin by looking up attractions in Cleveland for families. I'll start north and work my way south to Columbus. Once I hvae that list of contact information I'll work up a draft letter for my request, then working on both phoning and sending in letters, hopefully I'll be able to do some things F2F. Course I do it this way because anything I do needs to be submitted to both the PTO&PAT and the school principle to be reviewed for approval. So, I can at least begin with that before I start doing the actualy footwork. I wonder how I'm going to manage it when I need to start going and picking things up from the actual businesses...I wonder if I could convince them to drop them in the mail...so much to ponder.
In other news, I have managed to quilt together the pieces for Hunter's Bob shirt, but have since lost steam to actually finish the darned shirt itself. *sigh* I also can't seem to find a hard hat or tool belt ANYwheres.
Bah, it's still snowing, and it's accumulating. Darn.

Tomorrow's much too long"

Give Me Five Monday
Give Me Five recent movies you've rented.
What is everyone renting/watching lately? And if you haven't seen a movie lately, what are some you'd like to see soon?
1. Spanglish. Adam Sandler & Tea Leoni & the beautiful Paz Vega.
My husband came home from the store one day with one of my
favorite movies in hand. This is one of those that I could truly watch over and over again and not tire of it. :o)
2. The Happening. Mark Wahlburg. Oh my, what a terrific movie. Intense, and jaw dropping...totally a Shyamalan movie through and through. It was terrific.
3. Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay. Yeah, it's kinda tough to admit I've watched this...LOL
4. Monster House. My son bought this movie not too long after it came out, and since it's the season, he's been watching it non-stop. I like Chowder, he's funny.
5. Little Children. Kate Winslet. A movie that was kind of strange, but very moving. I was giggling madly at some parts, and horrified at others. Great watch when you want to kill some time.

UNICEF & Pagans
"You used to tell me we would run away together
Love gives you the right to be free"
Whitney Housten - Saving All My love
Yay Me! I actually made it to church this morning. It was a different kind of service, a Pagan Ritual celebrating something about those we love who have passed...I didn't quite catch the proper name of it. I always wondered what they did when they had their ceremonies, and now I know :o)
Anyhow, took Beth, and I'm afraid today's service may have scared her away, but that doesn't mean I won't keep inviting her.
"You've got what I'm looking for,
You've got personality"
Christina Aguilera - Come On Over
I was surprised at how much I missed it. I was also surprised at just how many people I knew there. There were mothers from LLL meetings I'd attended in the past, along with mother's from the school's PTO & PAT, and a mother from this summer's playgroup, as well as Scrabble night people. I guess all my hard work in making myself known in the community is finally paying off. It made me happy to see them all again.
"I'm so happy because today
I've found my friends"
Nirvana - Lithium
Anyways, I was SO happy when they called the children to their RE (religious education) classes, and when Hunter told me he wanted to go as well, I explained that he'd be going by himself and that mommy wasn't going to be there. He made a pouty face at me, then turned away and began playing. I guess he remembered the room from our previous visits and didn't mind it at all that I wasn't right there next to him!
"So good, So good,I got you!"
James Brown - I Feel Good
Breakthrough!! *does snoopy dances*
That news right there could bring a smile to my face for the rest of the day.
For the first time I was able to enjoy a full Sunday Service without interruptions from the kids.
I still need to finish working on Hunter's costume, and I really need to look for a yellow hard hat and a tool belt to finish it. I'm almost burnt out of sewing, but lastnight's quite evening really helped me recharge a bit. I'm hoping to knock the boys out for a while and get some work done on it, or take a nap with them myself.
"Money it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie"
Pink Floyd - Money
The Boys got UNICEF boxes from the church today. We'll be taking them out to ToT with us all week, then bringing them back next Sunday. It was cute to see Darius make his way around to nearly the entire congregation holding it out for change from everyone. :o) He does a good job.
Got the house relatively clean this morning. Did all the laundry lastnight, finally. It's amazing to see just how much we go thorugh sometimes. I drove Chance to work this morning so I could have the truck for church, and am now waiting to go and pick him and his friend up from work. Apparently they've decided to have a gaming day here. Hopefully I can get the kids to sleep through that.

ToT & Overnighters
"Baby I'm amazed at the the way you pulled me out of time
Hung me on a line
Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you"
Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed
I'm so tired. I hadn't stopped to think about it, but it's been a long week, and I feel so worn out, I'm seriously considering buying Hunter's costume this year (A feat that hasn't been done since D's first Halloween). I'm rather tired of sewing, and I think I need a nap. Too much hectic, last-minute mumbo jumbo. Too much demanding.
"I'm looking for comfort
That I can take
From someone else
But after all
I know there is no one"
Billy Joel - C'Etait Toi (You Were The One)
Managed to finish D's costume of Link, and sent him off to Cub Scouts in it, only to have him come back all stained from coloring with markers. Argh...I'm hoping it's washable. Started making the shirt to go with Hunter's Bob Overalls, but got so discouraged at the mount of work I was doing gave up and took a shower instead. It's really not that much work, but I felt overwhelmed because I'm tired, and because there was a store ToT today that went from 11-3 that I dind't know about that sounded like fun, and I almost felt like we HAD to go to because it would break the cherry on the ToT-ing for the year.
That's another thing I don't like about Ohio. Trick or Treating is on different nights, other than Halloween. I can understand stores/malls doing it that way, but it confuses me that neighborhoods should do it on any other night. What's the point in celebrating it at all if you don't want to do it on the actual day? Plus, all the extra nights could actually cause someone to be Halloween burnt out because their kids insist on going out with this friend and then that friend, and don't forget about that friend over there...There are so many places to go out to, it makes me almost not enjoy my favorite holiday. Do you know how much trouble it is to temper the older child so the younger child can keep up, and have them both be satisfied and happy at the end of the night and still remain sane? It's a lot of work in any event, and I know no one's saying I'm committed to attending each said ToT event, but it's difficult not to see the big picture from such a small stance.
"Some people never get beyond their stupid pride
But you can see the real me inside"
Paris Hilton - Stars Are Blind
Went out lastnight for dinner at a "Casual Fine Dining" place called The Old Jaol (Jail) with the family. Ronnie's treat :o) Had a super yummy (once I year I eat this) medium rare Filet Mingon with sauteed mushrooms, green beans, and a baked potato. Yum...expensive kind of yum, but it was terrific. We had a bit of trouble keeping Hunter seated, he was tired, didn't have a long enough nap, and D was antsy and refused to do as he was told, and it was quite a fiasco.
On the upside we got to listen to some Amish folk speaking in whatever language it is that they speak at a table next to us. I was amazed at how may words I could recognize, it sounded like french, german, and english all mashed together. Though as a side note I've always thought French, German and Spanish all sounded similar, and had the same basic structure.
"Folded hands and bended knees
I pray for life's catastrophes
Oh hallelujah, save us all"
Jann Arden - Calling God
Came home, and cleaned...my house was so appalingly messy from the days that I've spent decorating, and sewing, and beingout of the house. All the dishes were dirty, the laundry was in 5 seperate piles around the house, toys covered the livivng room floor, you couldn't see the dinig room table, and the Computer Area floor was covered in various costumes and decorations pieces. Got the dished done, and some semblance of clean as toys got picked up and put away, most decorations got cleaned and tidied and organized, and i can see my countertops again. Probably won't stay that way for long though. Whenever I get busy I don't always think to put everything away after I'm finished with it like I normally do.
"All the hurts and all the heartache
Where just a figment of my mind"
Jann Arden - I'd Be Glad
I'm ready to relax a bit tonight. D had his first Overnighter away from home (not including family members, of course) tonight at the YMCA. Apparently they'll be going swimming and such. I'm just hoping he won't be too tired to go to church tomorrow as I promised a friend I'd go with her, cause it'll be her first time attending our church, just so she can check it out.
"I had My hand in the river
My feet back up on the banks
Looked up to the lord above and said hey man thanks"
The Tragically Hip - New Orlean's Is Sinkin
I think I'm going to go take a nap, maybe the world will seem brighter when I wake up.

Decorations & Raffles
"I looked out this morning and the sun was gone Turned on some music to start my day I lost myself in a familiar song I closed my eyes and I slipped away"
Boston - More Than A Feeling
So I've been pondering what kind of finishing touched I want on my decorations.
I believe I'm going to use the tin can idea (you paint an empty can black, then punch a design in it wil a hammer & nail, then set a tea light inside of it to light it up) instead of getting mega pumpkins, and save myself the trouble of carvers arm. Just gotta make sure I make some meals outta my canned goods (try and use different sizes as well, ugh).
I was really surprised a can of spray paint only cost me 97 cents (for the cheapest stuff they had), and the more expensive brands didn't run more than 3 dollars a can. I always thought it would cost more than that, no wonder graffiti can run rampant.
"Anyday, now..I'm gonna' jump right in. And anyday ,now my destiny will begin."
Bif Naked - Any Day Now
I'm a little annoyed at our town. My MIL was kind enough to email the Mayor of our town to ask when Beggars night would be (It's stupid that it can be held on any night besides Halloween ANYWAYS) and his response was the first parent on the block to slip a note into the other ppl's doors would set the night. I can't even begin to explain how crazy that is. That's like saying, ok, I'm going to Celebrate Christmas in July because I won't be able to make it on the of the 25th in December. Stupid, am I right?
"I have a taste for danger If Im smart then I'll run away But Im not so I guess I'll stay"
Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
I wrote this months letter last night, and got my envelopes stuffed and ready to go this morning. Hopefully I'll be able to get them out today or tomorrow. I added D's school pictures, and a few had his Flag Football photo, and I made sure to include some sort of art work that D had done this past month, either writing or coloring.
"And if I could hold on Through the tears and the laughter Would it be beautiful?"
Kelly Clarkson - Beautiful Disaster
I need to finish Hunter's Bob shirt today (I'm actually quilting it from an orange and yellow piece of fabric cause I'm too lazy/cheap to go looking for an actual shirt to match), and hopefully I can piece together the rest of his costume this weekend.
I'm kind of tired today, and would really love to take a nap.
Went to a PKV Mardi Gras meeting last night (school parent volunteer program) and ended up signing myself up to head their Raffle Prize committee. Essentially I'm in charge of gaining donations in the form of free/reduced tickets/passes to attractions for anyplace between Columbus & Cleveland, Cash donations, and also get my hands on some great things that I can bundle together. Meaning, I'm going to be contacting every place in town...restaraunts, movie theaters, museums, anything of that sort to do myself proud. I hope I do well, as I'm not originally from this area I'm not entirely certain what all is available to me, but I'm gonna rely on the internet for some research, as well as my family cause I know they've got to have some kind of connections.
I don't mind doing the work, it'll give me something to do, and the worst anyplace can tell me, is No, right? So, I hope I can do as well or better than the past years they've run this event at the school.
I'm kind of hovering around "What the Hell Was I Thinking?!?", and "I'll Kick Ass At This!!". I wonder when my mind will decide which boat I live in? LOL
"Why, why is it always something new? Baby, I'm just dyin' to please."
Chicago - Hold On

Thursday Thunks
- What vegetable would you serve with a plate of fried grasshoppers? Potatoes, I think potatoes make everything better, plus they'll even out the texture if you mix them together while eating, thus making them more edible. That's what I do when I overcook my meat.
- If you realize your house is on fire while you are using the bathroom, do you wipe or just run for the door? If the kids are with me (it's still nearly impossible to not be interrupted in the can) that I don't wipe, if I'm by myself wipe, then run, definitely.
- Why is there a light in the fridge but not in the freezer? I think it would take up too much room. Honestly, our freezer is usually crammed enough as it is cause we go through so much bread.
- When thinking about yourself, what color do you see yourself as? Yellow!
- Why are people able to have unprotected sex with someone, but afraid to tell them if they have an STD? Just cause they're able doesn't mean they should...(you know, like they really don't need to be reproducing or some such nonsense) STD's come with a nasty stigma about your sexual health, and maybe even your personal hygiene. Seriously, do YOU kiss people with Cold Sores? Now, I was probably pregnant with my first child when I found out Genital Herpes could come from Cold Sore Oral Sex...how many others out there don't know that fact? Ignorance is a shame. Long story short STD = DIRTY

I Rock!!!
YAY me!
I spent all day today putting up decorations.
Admittedly I had put up all of my store-bought stuff the night before, but the main set up I did today.
I woke up and started making the dummies, I had a general idea of what I was doing, and decided to bite the bullet and just make one and decide whether or not I liked it. After a trial and error I got them all put together, then I carted everything outside with me (it was a clear crisp day out, so it was perfect weather for it). It took me about 3 hours to get everything set-up the way I wanted it. It looks fabulous. I also ended up climbing my tree to set up one dummy there, hang some bats, and cob webs. I'm not quite finished yet, I still plan on putting out two pumpkins, and some tin cans with punch-outs.
I don't believe I've ever had ANYone drive by my home slowly while I put up decorations for Halloween, but a few people did today. After I had gotten everything up and was getting ready to set out my Frankenstein board, I actually saw someone pull onto the street (we live on a corner), pull a u-turn and drive by slowly a second time. It was actually kind of embarrassing, but it means I've done my job.
Go See my Flickr page to check out the new photos.
Anyhow, tomorrow is D's Cub Scout meeting, and I'm told that I need to make him a Link (From The Legend of Zelda) outfit for his costume. Usually he'd have it picked out and such, but this year we got into a spat...he wanted to be Frankenstein, and I thought it was too gory, so we went with something lighter.
Anyhow, I love Halloween, and I hope all of the effort I've put into shows my feeling for my favorite holiday.

One of those days
Oh gosh, today was one of those days where I should not have gotten out of bed.
I woke up nice and late, the Mr. let me sleep in...so I got up and showered, came down for something to eat...hopped online to check my email, and my MIL says hello and asks how Speech Therapy went. Shit. I forgot about speech therapy this morning...from then on my brain refused to work properly...had bunches of gaps, lost thoughts, random ideas. Was silly really. I was functioning like a half a person for the rest of the day, a person running on only one braincell. I did stupid things without even knowing why, and barely noticing I was doing them.
Sad.
Anyhow, I'm still working on finishing my decorations today. I got the store-bought stuff up last night, and it looks ok, but it really needs some extra big stuff up and out there to put the finishing touches on it. I'm working on making a way to rig up a circle of ghosts that will go around a grouping of monsters.
I've figured out how to make the bodies, I'm just a bit concerned with how the heads will look. I've got many different things on the go with it, but I dunno if it'll work out ok. We'll see, it's my effort that counts.

All About You
Asked by Indigo @ That's My Answer
How are you with names and faces?
I remember most everyone, for different reasons. Can't be sure why, but most times I'm better with faces, unless I know that I'm with someone who's not good with names then I make an unconscious effort to memorize both. The person could of course make an impression and cause me to remember them that way as well, which is pretty easy.
Has someone ever called you by the wrong name and you did not correct them because it was too awkward?
All the time...I answer to Amanda, Amy, and Mrs. Breckenridge, or Miss Elliott (I kept my maiden name when I got married and since I don't claim my husbands last name ppl assume I'm NOT married, even though I clearly have a ring on my finger, DUH) almost any other A name you can think of because for some reason Amber seems too difficult to remember.
Do you ever pretend to be someone, not you, on the phone?
Sometimes, I've pretended to be my babysitter (I don't actually have one), my mother, and a relative in from out-of-town to avoid telemarketers and bill collectors.
Would you ever fight a bull?
No, why would I need to do that?
Be honest, is the grass always greener on the other side?
Somedays...I like to think that sometimes I married and had kids to early, before I had a chance to really experience being an adult (not that I had been doing a great job before). I know there are times when I wish I was just unattached and had the freedom to do what I wanted at will, but I honestly know that I'm happier being committed and responsible, so the feeling never lasts more than a few hours.

Give Me Five Monday
Give Me Five fave fall time foods with or with out recipes.
1. I love cranberries & brussel sprouts this time of year. Canadian Thanksgiving was last weekend, after all.
2. Turkey soup. Especially if it's made with leftovers.
3. I love hot tea, of any sort, and this is when I start drinking it by the boxful, because I don't drink coffee anymore. I had to stop that when I realized how strung out Hunter was before it dawned on me that it the caffine goes through breastmilk.
4. Fresh home made apple sauce. I don't make it often, but when I do it's usually this time of year because I actually really enjoy it warm.
5. Soup. I know I already put a soup up here, but I so often start craving them this time of year it's difficult to know which one I've got on what day. I generally make mine from scratch, and usually use a base of onion, carrot, celery, peas, and whatever noodle/potato & meat is handy, sometimes I'll use chicken, sometime's I'll use ground beef...but during the colder months ground beef is my preference, I see chicken as being a warm month thing. I'll add whatever spices and other veggies I have about, but those are my main staple ingredients.

Birthday Weekend Update
Wow, looking at pictures of myself from this weekend, I'm starting to look a little drab. It could be the weather, it could be that I've packed on some winter fat. Either way, I believe it's time to start trying to make my waistline shrink, just a little bit. Even one size down would be good, as I'm not impressed with that extra chin hanging around either. One step at a time I figure.
ANYhow, my husband managed to pull a fast one on me and pulled off a mega birthday, to make up for last years. Not only did he buy me a super-wicked-awesomest gift in the entire world, but he also managed to pull off a surprise party that I was genuinely surprised at (yeah, I was clueless). I love my new camera, but I'm afraid it may take me a while to get used to the new settings, navigation, and weight (seriously, it's gotta weight about 5 lbs) of it. It took me two years to get as close & good to/with my old camera as I am, I can't imagine how long it'll take with this new one.
I also recieved some new shirts from my mom, cards from various family members, some items off my Amazon.com list (red arm cover thingies, dryer balls, Bif Naked cd, pedometer), a year of Flickr Pro, and loads of well-wishers on Facebook. It's been a wonderful birthday weekend, and I'm glad it's done and over with now, so long as I can remember how old I am now when ppl ask. LOL
I watched "The Happening" this weekend, and I loved it. Course, I am a Shyamalan fan, and couldn't help but wonder why it got such bad reviews. I really enjoyed it.
I also watched Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, and was rolling in stitches from laughing so hard. Now, I admit when I was growing up I passed on the insanely stupid, predictable, and raunchy humor-type movies, but it wasn't until my husband F-O-R-C-E-D me to watch them that I actually came to appreciate them. I'm not saying I like movies like those spoof flicks, those are too much for me...but I don't mind the stupid ones now and again, so long as they're in small doses. And, I have to admit as well that I really enjoyed the first Harold & Kumar, only because Kumar also plays Taj in National Lampoons Van Wilder, which I'm a huge fan of.
Today I spent the majority in my pj's, before my oldest son took me to Acres of Fun and we played through about 6 dollars worth of Jurrasic Park, and our trigger fingers were sore. That's our special game, that only we play together...it's sacred.
So, I didn't get my decorations up today, which I'm kinda bummed about, but oh well. I guess I can try again tomorrow when D's in School, or maybe wait until Tuesday when Ronnie's gonna be around to watch Hunter. I dunno, it depends on how much energy I have. I'm all caked & caffined out.
I'm tired...I need sleep...hope your weekend was as great as mine was!
Go visit my Flickr account...you'll see how great it was :o)

It's my Birthday
I'm kinda tired, kinda cold, what should I get up to today?
Pokie got me a renewal for my Flickr account, which will now be good thorugh 2010...YAY! I disliked having to worry about it earlier this year, so it's a relief. I'm almost afraid to count how many photos I upload in a month to it. I should count how many I take in a month.
The kids took a walk yesterday, as D had no school. We went to the park first, where we were pleased to find that our playgroup friends from the summer were playing as well, so we joined them. We stayed for about an hour and a half before working our way to the local market downtown where we got some hot food, to help warm us up a bit. Wasn't much of a consolation considering we ate outside. It was only 51 degrees out, so a sign said when we were walking by. I dunno the conversion to that but it felt damned cold when the wind blew. In any event, we stopped at the market, warmed up, then carried on to the library, where we warmed up and grabbed a few books, then went over to the registration office as my vehicle registration expires today, but I arrived 7 minutes too late and their office was already closed. I'm annoyed at myself for that, but I thought they were open until 5. :oP So I hafta go back in this morning before we hit the last Flag Football game for D. In total we walked about 2.5 miles, and though we were tired afterwards, it was real nice to walk around town like that again, I hadn't realized how much I missed it.
So, today is D's last Flag Football game, which is a shame. I was hoping to get him into a few other sports as well, but am unsure which one it will be. Basketball, indoor soccer, ice skating..ANYthing that will help him burn off that energy he holds onto.
Oh well, I guess I'll kinda do this day one small step at a time, and right now i need to book it down to the registration office and do my renewal before we head to D's game.

Thursday Thunks
Toys, money, fridges, adresses & ceilings
Welcome to the October 16th version of Thursday Thunks!Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
This week we will answer a few random things:
- What was your favorite toy as a child? My Barbie dolls, I remember playing with them and thinking that was what I was going to look like when I grew up. When I realized it was not going to be, I was truly disappointed.
- If money was no object, but you could only buy ONE thing, what would you buy your spouse/significant other? I would buy him a car.
- What about your children? I'd buy their tuition for college...lol
- Now, if you only had $10 to buy one thing, what would it be? A can of pepsi, or maybe a Big Mac Meal Supersized to get the Monopoly pieces on the fries
- What's on your refrigerator? Lots of magnets...my sons drawing of himself in the mirror, pictures of my family back home
- What's on top of it? Windex, Lysol Spray, and a container of candles
- Go look in it. Whats in there that would gross the rest of us out? I don't think there's anything in there that would gross anyone out, I just cleaned it out on Tuesday for Trash Day
- Whats your favorite type of potato? Idaho, I'm a starch lover
- Do you have an address book? Do you write in it or do you just stick return addresses/envelopes in it? I have an address book, I usually add my personal addresses to it, but leave business addresses out.
- Look up. Do you like your ceiling? It's got a funky texture to it, I guess I do, but I'd rather a flat ceiling.

What Not To Wear
Posted by Indigo @ That's My Answer
If the What Not To Wear crew showed up to give YOU a full makeover, would you be offended or excited?
I think I’d be excited, but as with most fashion victims, I don’t see a problem with my wardrobe. I’d have a problem with expensive clothing though, I’m a penny pincher and considering the fact that I have very active kids, who happen to keep me just as active as them, it’d be difficult to do something like that in stilettos, which is why I now wear flats. In short, as long as what they “improve” doesn’t interfere with my ability to be an active parent, I’m all good with it.

All About You
Asked by Indigo @ That's My Answer
Have you ever run out of gas? Maybe once, though I’m not certain
Or locked your keys in your car? Plenty, most memorably when I was pregnant with my 2nd son, and no one was available to run out the 2nd set of keys from the other side of town.My oldest son mentions it every once and a while. Really though, I remember each time I've done and feel silly for it.
How about with your car running? no
And have you ever parked your car, then couldn’t remember where you parked it? Not usually, I can remember general areas, but not always the exact location
Be honest, how often do you wash your car? About twice a month, maybe more. Depends on the weather, my boys really enjoy getting all soapy and fighting with the hose afterwards.

Train Rides
"If you can't make a mistake, you can't make anything."
--Marva Collins
We went on a 10 hour tour yesterday. We left the house at 10 AM, and didn't return until 8:30PM.
We drove south to Nelsonville, and rode a train for fun :o) Don had gotten tickets for it from the school's auction last spring, and finally decided to make use of them. We really cut it kind of close, but it was due to plenty of factors, like needing to stop to let the kids burn off a bit of energy, and having to go to the post office and gas station on the way out of town. Unfortunately they weren't really smoothly functioning ticket-masters, and after dropping Chance off at the ticket booth to cash in the coupons, we ended up waiting over an hour for him to get them, along with a line up of people that went well beyond the station platform.
It was a bit uncomfortable and hot in the train, but it was kinda cool. We rode in a car that was double decked, and rode on the top deck in the hopes we could get a better view than our counterparts below. UNFORTUNATELY, the A/C wasn't working, due to an improperly functioning Mercury thermostat, so they left the doors open in the hopes that it would rush through a bit of a breeze. It was warm, but kind of relaxing, with the bumping and swaying. The kids did amazingly well, considering they hadn't eaten lunch b4 boarding, and had minimal snacks. They enjoyed watching out the window, and testing their ability to stand up while the train was moving. We stopped at a pioneer village, of sorts, and had some fun checking it out, but mostly snacking on the food they had available, and enjoying the fresh moving air.
"But Ill die as I stand here today
Knowing that deep in my heart
Theyll fall to ruin one day"
The Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang
After we pulled back into the station we disembarked and carried on to a Sonic. I've seen commercials for this place, but never actually been to one, so it was a new experience for me. I liked that they served Tater Tots, and had a yummy cheeseburger...but what really sold me on them was the most amazing chocolate milkshake I've ever experienced in my life! It was creamy, had no unpleasant aftertaste, not too sweet, and perfectly chocolaty! Hunter and I were instant fans. On our drive back I shared mine with him, but when I was forced to take it away because he was playing with the straw and getting chocolate everywhere, he carried on for a good hour of complaining...
"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone"
Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi
I will say that I managed to read more than 100 pages into my book during the drive! Of course I brought a well-stocked backpack to keep the boys occupied, but was definitely saddened to find that our portable DVD player has bitten the dust, and needs to be replaced. It was skipping the DVD badly, and refused to play the movie after a certain point, even though the DVD was scratch and smudge free (a rarity amongst our DVD collection). So, without that added usual distraction it was a bit more difficult to keep them occupied and happy. I sat in the back with the boys on the way down, and on the way back Chance sat with them.
"The window burns to light the way back home
A light that warms no matter where they've gone"
Metallica - Hero Of The Day
I didn't take as many pictures as I thought I would take, but it was mainly due to the fact that the train was made up of cars that were salvaged and restored, and our car had cloudy tinted windows from the 1950's, so it made it difficult to get clear shots. I could have stood between cars, but really didn't feel like standing to get shots of the things we passed. Also, one side of the car was shaded, and the other in the sun. I chose shaded, Darius and Don chose sun, and I think they got the better view, as their side was less inhabited than ours. We had a view of mobile homes, yards, and quarries. It wasn't really an exciting view, as I think it was more intended for the ride. I was surprised to find that the train stayed on a straight track, I guess I was expecting it to make a loop, and have a circular track, but it rode for a while in one direction, double backed, and passed the station before stopping at the village, and heading back to the station to end the ride.
It made for a long day, in any event, but was enjoyable to have a change of pace from the norm. If anything it reinforced my need to make sure I stay in the practice of packing properly, ad this trip I forgot to pack regular food, like sandwiches and the such. Normally I do, and I couldn't tell you why I didn't this time.
"I've had a chance to be insane
Asylum from the falling rain
I've had a chance to break"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Slow Cheetah
The upside, is now the boys can say they've been on train!

As Promised...
From Darius:
I've joined the Cub Scouts this year, and am now facing my very first fundraiser of popcorn sales. I would really appreciate it if you bought some popcorn from me to help me earn my very first Cub Scout badge, and to show your support of me being a part of an organization.
Please go to the this URL to support me by purchasing some delicious popcorn.
Thanks for your support!
Friday Fill-Ins #93
1. One of the best concerts/plays/movies I ever saw that I really didn't think I'd like was The Dark Night. I tried really hard not to read any reviews, or speculations on it, so I wouldn't know what hit when I finally watched it, and WOW I wasn't disappointed!
2. Lentil Chili is a recipe I recently made (or meal I recently ordered) that was delicious!
3. It's time for me to put up my Halloween Decorations.
4. Sleeping with the window open is quite refreshing.
5. If I never hear the word HUH? again, it'll be too soon. (Read my post about it here)
6. To one side of the curving road was a sharp inclining hillside, and on the other was a drop-off that lead to a wonderful aqua colored lake.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a completed Bob the Builder Costume, tomorrow my plans include going on a train ride in Hocking Hills and Sunday, I want to sort through the clothes in my closet to pare down!

Thursday Thunks
Welcome to the October 9th version of Thursday Thunks!
As stated previously I am currently attempting to make it more entertaining to read my blog, so here's a new meme to check up on.
This week we will answer a few random things:
- How long do you keep unmatched socks before you get rid of them... and how do you dispose of these socks? I keep them forever. I'm bad that way, I keep thinking that I'll eventually find the match, but I never do. Consequently my sock drawer is crowded with one sock pieces, and when I get tired of them in there I take them out and stuff them in a bag for storage, and eventually cleaning rags.
- If you could paint your house ANY color you wanted and your friends, family & neighbors would love the color from the moment they saw it, what would it be? Happy Face Yellow!
- Which Disney prince/princess would you want to be and why? Ariel, cause she rocks! Honestly though, I'm a sucker for Disney Princess songs...LOL
- What was the last thing you took a picture of? My son & husband playing together

A few quick thoughts.
I am no longer comfortable carrying hunter down the stairs, and I don't really think I ever was to begin with. I fell down the last two stairs with him in my arms yesterday, and almost landed on him. It scared him more than anything, that I ended up sitting on his foot, but it was a sharp reminder not to think of oneself a surefooted when anything can happen. I do tend to think I'm more careful than most with him in my arms, I'm slower moving, and I tend to test my step before I put all of my weight on my foot. I still managed to slip down the last two stairs, and land on him...not that I dropped him, I struggled to let him down easy so that I wouldn't hurt him, and even landed on my elbow because of it, but I still managed to sit on his foot. Scary, and a bit wake up call in any event.
Hunter had speech therapy this morning, and he did amazingly well! He's definitely used to the speech therapist, and even said her name today! He said in total about 7 new words, and about 10 everyday words that he's said before. He talked a lot, and she says it won't be long now before he spurts out the key words I'm looking for...being I Love You, or Love You.
Rhonda took me grocery shopping this morning, even though I was dead tired I knew it needed to be done, so I did it. As we were finishing up, I went to buy some apples (I've been craving foods in season which is a bit of a rarity) and noted that Wal Mart had a bag of Gala (not even the best kind!) Apples on for $6.47. SIX DOLLARS AND FOURTY SEVEN CENTS. I've never seens apples so pricey, and my jaw was dropped. Like, did the apple market all of the sudden bottom out or something? Gouging us for APPLES! Unbelievable.
Anyhow, there's a PTO meeting that I'd like to attend tonight, and if I do I need to finish making the boys a really great snack.
Gosh, I'm tired, but I'm looking forward to have a couple of relaxing drinks with Ashley when she gets home from work tonight.

Give Me Five Monday
Give Me Five things you should/will be intentional about this week.
1. I'm going to read more with my older son.
2. I'm going to drink more water.
3. I'm going to get more fresh air.
4. I'm going to be early for my scheduled affairs.
5. I'm going to go grocery shopping.
In an attempt to make my blog a little more entertaining, I'm going to begin Give Me 5 Monday's, to go along with my Friday Fill-Ins. I hope you all enjoy!
Hunter's Accomplishments
Big title, whoa.
"And I know that it's true that all the things that I do
Will come back to me in my sweet time"
Steve Miller Band - Rockin' Me
Hunter has shown such wonderful progress since we began Speech Therapy. I'm proud to say he's finally begun two word sentences. Though it probably started before, I noticed last Wednesday that he said "Daddy, Home!". He's also said since then, more please, and no me.
He has developed a taste for Peanut Butter toast, and enjoys playing with it more than eating it. He likes how sticky it is on his fingers. Hunter can now put his own shoes on with ease, though he does get them mixed up sometimes and ends wearing them on the wrong feet. He's begun this really strong (as if it wasn't apparent before) independent streak. He wants to dress himself, and does a pretty decent job of it, put his own shoes on, and decide weather or not to stay clothed during the day...which is causing a bit of concern when we go outside cause he wants to take off his jacket, but it's too cold to go without now. He's so amazingly cute when he runs, he takes these little steps and goes as quickly as he can. Unless he's excited, he always watches where he's going to avoid disaster.
"Now that we've come to a showdown
We won't allow you a second to slow down
The moment has come to deliver
You as the taker, and we as the giver"
Nazareth - Razamanaz
Darius is doing so well in school, I'm so proud of him. He's been bringing books home to read to us, and boy is he a strong reader! Never mind that, but he doesn't hesitate to pick up a book at any time! He LIKES to read! That fact makes me feel so wonderful, that he'll enjoy using his imagination, that fact could prove ho creative of an individual he could be. Not that I ever doubted his creativity, what with his inventions, and concoctions, and bright ideas that he frequents. It's more of a constructive confirmation. He's so proud to be in Cub Scouts, and that he knows a few of the boys from school in his Den. I'm not certain how he feels about his own dad being the Scout Leader, but that fact will be made clear over the next few weeks anyways.
"Was there no oil to excavate
No riches in trade for the fate
Of every person who died in hate
Throw us a bone, you men of great"
Sheryl Crow - Redemption Day
We have yet to sit and discuss our immigration issues, but I think we're slowly building a plan on what we're doing. I'd so love to be home for Christmas, and doing the regular Taxi service of getting everyone for the Holiday, and taking them home again. I'd give anything for the smell of pine & snow, and the glow of the purple sky over the city late at night, when it's so quiet you don't want to speak for fear of shattering something. I want to hear the mountain snow crunch beneath my feet, and know that my family is so close all I need to do is drive a few hours to see them. What's a few hours when is could take days? I guess I can dream.
"In the winter time
When all the leaves are brown
And the wind blows so chill"
Steve Miller Band - Wintertime
Sunday, October 05, 2008
Yech
"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along"
Evanescence - My Immortal
I'm sick.
My head is stuffed up, my nose is running, me throat is a bit sore from not being able to breathe properly through the night. My neck is sore from sleeping all propped up to avoid the drainage down my throat. I'm tired now, and I had a rough sleep cause I kept waking up with a tickly throat.
Why is it that when I'm sick I feel relatively ok in the morning when I first wake up (asides from the lack of sleep), but the longer I'm awake, the worse I feel?
I made breakfast...hard boiled eggs, corn muffins, biscuits, and Butterscotch pudding. Weird combo, I know, but it sounded good when I was rooting through the fridge...and I actually didn't hear any complaints when I served it, for once. I also seized the opportunity to make some Beef & Lentil Chili for dinner (defeats the purpose of Lentils being a vegan a dish, but oh well, I gotta start experimenting with all the dried beans I've got from WIC)
"They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe"
Queen - Somebody To Love
Been contemplating Halloween. I believe we have enough decorations, so we should be good on that front, it's now a matter of buying the candy for the treat bags. I wonder what day they're doing the trick-or-treat here? Anyhow, I decided to make Hunter a Bob the Builder Costume. I dunno what Darius wants to be yet, he wants to be the Frankenstein costume he was given by the little girls across from mom's, but it's too small and though I've told him to pick something else, he has yet to do so.
"I hurt much more
Than anytime before
I had no options left again"
Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit
I cleaned D's room yesterday...ok, I packed away a lot of his toys. The room looked so cluttered and they don't play with all of them, so I decided to pack some away and watch the reaction. So far, they haven't noticed. The room feels better now, not so crowded and cluttered, and there's a better selection of favorite toys to play with. I've been meaning to do that for the past week, and lastnight was frustrated with everything enough to do it.
I'm tired...I'm thinking about going to veg on the couch...maybe after I finish my net stuff I will.
Chance is going to be nice and take the boys out for me to help wear them out a bit. Go play at the park, maybe do some grocery shopping.
"Autumn winds
Blowing outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer"
ABBA - Gimme Gimme Gimme

Friday Fill-Ins #92
1. October is my favorite month of the year.
2. Heights scare me!
3. Leaves are falling all around, it's just asking to be jumped in.
4. My favorite horror movie is Hellraiser because it was the basis of so many nightmares.
5. A family get together + Gramma cooking + games = good memories.
6. It was a dark and stormy night so we all decided to crash in the living room together.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to taking a nap with the boys, tomorrow my plans include going to D's Flag Football game and Sunday, I want to make some new pj's for the boys!

"You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal."
Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone
Wow it sure got cold today! Walked D to school, had a wonderful morning with him...woke up early to shower, did his homework and ate breakfast...nice and quiet. I like those times, when it's just us. We used to enjoy each other a whole lot more before anyone else came into the picture.
Anyhow, got home and pondered what I would get up to, before I realized we had out truck back.
I took some clothes that were in the back of it to a children's consignment store in town and dropped them off, went to pick up the picture CD (finally) from the portrait studio, and hit the library with Hunter, where I got some wonderful pictures of him, and a great idea of what we need to get him for Christmas.
"And dont criticize
What you cant understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command"
Bob Dylan - Time They Are A Changin'
Darius and Hunter are both just getting so big it's hard to notice sometimes. I guess I'm noticing it now because I'm thinking about getting older myself, with my birthday just around the corner.
How different am I from last year? Am I really going to be 27? Yikes.
"Ooh baby, you know the time is right
We are the light of two foreign ships, passing in the night "
April Wine - Oowatanite
I have a sore throat, I hope it doesn't turn into anything, Friday I start helping Mrs. Richard (D's teacher) as a class helper with Math. I'm hoping I don't have to cancel, so far I've been a no-show to everything I've signed up for, I don't want to cancel anything else. I also don't want to get anyone else sick.
I'm tired, and still have yet to do any discussing with Chance about what we should be doing with ourselves, as our options seem to be running themselves into the ground left and right. It always seems we need to take a deep breath and remind ourselves to think.
